F.A.Q.

Have a question you don’t see answered here? Please email us and we will be happy to answer, no matter how silly you may think it is!

Q. WHAT EXACTLY IS PILATES?

A. Technically? “A method of conditioning incorporating specific exercises designed to strengthen the entire body, with particular emphasis on the lower back and abdominal region, while at the same time enhancing flexibility.” We prefer to continue on with the original explanation from Mr. Pilates himself, “The complete coordination of the mind and body.”

Q. do i need to be flexible?

A. One of the most commonly asked questions! No. Not at all. In fact, we welcome those who title themselves “stiff as a board.” Flexibility is one of the many benefits of Pilates.

Q. will i be sore?

A. Depends on the individual. Some report a “slight soreness” the next day. However, it’s more often than not we hear, “I feel amazing!”

Q. what do i wear?

A. Anything comfortable. Men are asked to wear compression shorts under their athletic shorts, and women are asked to wear their hair out of their face. We prefer bare feet, but if socks are a must for you we recommend toe socks, or a pair with grips on the bottom.

Q. i have no coorination, should i be concerned?

A. Not at all. Just like flexibility, coordination is one of the many benefits of Pilates.

Q. can my son/daughter take lessons even though they’re not 18?

A. Of course! We welcome all ages. Pilates can help keep young ones safe during their intense gymnastics and dance lessons or football and hockey practices by learning how to engage their deepest musculature in the most efficient ways. Pilates also helps keep their flexibility “prime.” All we need is a parent or guardians consent.

Q. will pilates help with my posture?

A. Absolutely. Consistency is key. The classical method of Pilates assists in the alignment, lengthening and strengthening of the spine and muscles around it. We work with individuals who have Scoliosis, Kyphosis, pelvic tilts and so much more.
